Stem cells therapy: dealing with controversy!

During the last weeks, fifth grades have been reading about stem cells. They became aware of these cells' potential, but also of the controversy related to the use of embryos for medical purposes. Students were asked to write their point of view about stems cells therapy, based on an article related to the topic. Take a look of the article they read

What is my personal opinion about stem cells therapy?

I think that cell stem are very important but at the same time are bad because they are using embryos and that is very bad because they are not letting babies have an opportunity to live and I also think that scientist should try a different way to stop killing babies.
Also that can be bad because maybe if a person gets stem cells from other persons that person that is going to donate can transmit cancer to the person.

What is my opinion about stem cells therapy?

I realize that I would accept the therapy because of this:

If I accept it a baby would probably die but I will be cured. I know that the baby would probably die and if it is like this it would be sad. But on the other hand in another opportunity I can have a baby and I wouldn´t be sick. So that is the reason I would accept the therapy because everybody wins, the baby and me!

My opinion about stem cells therapy:

If a person is in agree with the stem cells therapy she/he has to know the procedure of this therapy:

*A baby is killed because doctor or scientists take the stem cells of the baby to put then into another person, so can be alive.

However the person who receives the stem cell is only thinking about herself, not about the baby that is being killed.

Another opinion can be that a person receives the stem cells and the baby dies, but the person stays alive and finally this person can have a new baby.

This person later can thank to that baby that gave him the stem cell, being a donor to any person that needs stem cells.

What is my personal opinion about stem cells therapy?

Stem cells:
I think that the 90% about stem cells is good, but the other part is bad. What is it good about the stem cells? They can change into any kind of cells like: branching cells, round cells, and flat cells, etc. And also they can make all the functions. To sum up they can heal most of the diseases we can get. But they are also bad because probably a friend, or anybody I am with, could pass me his or her stem cells, but if he or she had a disease like: Parkinson, cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer, etc, the most possible risk is that I get the disease.

However, let's suppose I have cancer and one of the solutions is to take stem cells from embryos. I will accept it because if a woman donates the embryos, is because she doesn't want a baby, so if I don't accept, her family wouldn’t be able to take a good care of the little baby. But honestly I will prefer other cure.

What is my personal opinion about stem cells therapy

STEM CELLSIf I have a disease and somebody asks me: do you want us to transplant stems cells to save your life?, I would think if I accept. I would be killing a human and it is not fair, but if there is another cure I would accept it and said ''yes''. Obviously stem cells can save a lot of diseases like: diabetes, spinal cord damage, stroke etc. But we can find other cures. My conclusion is that it is not correct to kill babies because they are human beings.

MY PERSONAL OPINION ABOUT STEM CELL



My personal opinion about stem cell therapy is divided. On the hand, I think that I am not in agreement because the baby has the right to live. He or she doesn’t have to pay with his own life, for someone eases diseases when a person is in the mother’s womb can not decide what she or he wants and it is unfair to decide for them. Decide we are stealing that person’s opportunity of being someone very important who could possible great things formation.

On the other hand I agree to develop the use of that therapy because the baby doesn’t now anything yet it is better to give the live to a person who all ready has a family that will miss him or here very much.


Considering that I agree and I do not agree with the therapy I think that scientist should reproduce stem cell in a lab. Maybe they can develop the therapy to take the stem cell with out killing the embryo.

What is my personal opinion about steam cells theraphy?

I think that steam cells are good because, for example if you are missing platelets, they can turn into platelets and help you. Also in a deadly situation they can help you to be healthy by transforming in the cell you are missing.
Although, I think they are bad, because if you are missing a lot of steam cells and a donor gives some steam cells to you, unwittingly you can get a disease and it can be worse. Finally I think they are also bad because if you are going to have a steam cell therapy, they kill babies for getting the steam cells.
With this in mind, my personal point of view is that steam cells therapy is very bad.

What is my personal opinion about stem cells therapy?

I would accept the therapy because if you have a disease you could be better.
The therapy is a very good option; those stem cells are cells that help someone when he/ she has a disease.
I think that it is bad too because the person could have a terrible disease, and if the stem cells have a disease and they transplant to another person, sometimes that people is going to have the same disease.
It is also bad because if you don’t have a donor, doctors scientists have to kill a baby for cultivating stem cells in a lap.
